“Are Corporations People?”: Larry Lessig on Campaign Finance Reform

www.fixcongressfirst.org Lawrence Lessig discusses how the proper response to the recent Supreme Court "Citizens United v. FEC" ruling isn't to reverse the decision or to regulate speech, but to address the fundamental influence of money in congress. The best way to fix congress is to support the Fair Elections Now act, which will put in place a system of citizen funded elections.

Corporations have become too large, and their bottom line is driven not by social concerns as was originally intended, they are not there to provide for the people or even for their own employees.

Today the corporation has become a destructive, cost externalizing machine serving the interests only of its investors ROI.

Gone is the concept of a rising tide lifting all boats, in fact it is a complete 180, today we see a race to the bottom as a criminal elite dominate the majority.

The handwriting is on the wall people, and if we let the special interests run the world our species will never be free to realize its true potential.

I was under the impression that you were all tired of being serfs to some feudal lord, and that you did not wish to become slaves on a global plantation, in some grand Orwellian or Huxleyan nightmare.

Was I wrong? I do not think so.

Stand up America, the world will follow you, even now when your name has been trashed by these globalists .

Let us reduce the Federal Government to a framework for the states to cooperate on vital matters such as national defense and return the power to its rightful owners, the sovereign individuals.

Let us create the means and modes of a virtual constitutional republic and then share that technology with the world’s people so that they too might one day be free men!

The time is Now, the conflict is Here.

Live free or die – we no longer have a choice.

We do not need a massive federal government anymore, we have the technology to draw down the Vital apparatus of the Federal Government to the state level via the 10th amendment and create a form of virtual republic via the near instantaneous correspondence of IT technology.

Let’s take the power back and put it in the hands of the states themselves, relegating the functions of the federal government to those principally envisioned.

Clearly an issue that should have broad bipartisanship and the GOP could take this opportunity to get back to their roots, as they have long championed this particular cause, but have gotten away from.

Going to the website and well done!

I don’t see why both things can’t be true.

Why can’t we have citizen-funded elections AND also elevate the rights of human beings above those of abstract legal entities such as corporations.

One person, one vote ennobles all.

One corporation, one-hundred-thousand votes is something. But it’s not democracy.

Right on. Patching CU might be useful, but is not nearly adequate.

Good argument. Campaign contributions are really bribes. Time to stop all political DoubleSpeak so any concerned citizen can run for pulic office to represent human beings not ficticious beings representing a CARNIVORIS concept called CORPORATISM…..
