What determines if a stock goes down or up considering the same amount of shares goes in and out?

A web user asks, If about 1,500,000 million shares get sold that means 1,500,000 million shares have also been bought by someone as well. So why on some days does it go down instead of up? Someone still bought shares on the other end and that was a good thing right? The same amount for the day.
