what can creditors do if you have debt in a foreign country?

Submitted by on August 8, 2010 – 9:56 pmNo Replies

A web user asks, Hi,
I lived in the UK on a working visa for 2 years. I had a credit card and car loan in the UK. I have now moved back to Australia and continue to pay these debts back but am experiencing financial hardship. I have contacted the creditors but they wont budge. What could they do if I just stopped paying until I could afford it? Is there jurisdiction issues or will it just effect me when I go back?
Thanks.
