I've been there...six times. Gas, and real estate, are about 5 times as expensive there as here. Everything else is about the same as it costs here, or less expensive than here.
Crime is lower there.
Universal health care means you get treatment you need there.
They have taxes, but you get goods, and services, in return for their tax money.
They have a good public transport system. The same ticket can be used on trains, trams, and buses.
They require immigrants to learn English.
It is one place left where most of the people still like Americans.
The government bends over backards to get people jobs, or retraining for jobs.
They have a country the size of the USA, with only enough people to fill two New York Citys...so there is less water, and air, and ground, pollution.
Law abiding people are very free, as criminals are locked up. When a murderer escaped from Prison in Sydney, years ago, it made front page news all across the country. That is how rare prison escapes are there.
Prostitution, and gambling, are legal in much of Australia-Melbourne, for example-and it is controlled, and regulated, and licensed, and brings in much tax revenue. Some of that revenue helps pay for social security/welfare/education, etc.
Most Australians are well educated. Bookstores abound, as do universities.
Most Australians work 9-5, get weekends off, enjoy sports/movies/music/dance, and partying with friends.
Australians are more accepting of other races, creeds, etc, than Americans are.
Wages, and salaries, are high as long as you do your job, and have the qualifications. If you have no marketable job skills, government training programs exist to help you learn a trade.
